During the Qing Dynasty, a temple named Tin Hau Temple was built in the middle of the temple street, which is called Yau Ma Tei Tin Hau Temple. On the other hand, Temple Street is also known as “Men’s Street” because of its similar nature to “Ladies Market” in Mongkok and its male-dominated visitors. The younger generation in Hong Kong mostly use “old temple” as the common name of temple street.

Starting in the evening of each day, the stalls on the street of Temple Street will open. Those stalls and booths sell a wide range of goods including men’s clothing, handicrafts, tea sets, jades, antiques, and even cheap electronic products. There are also many fortune-telling and phase-viewing stalls near Tin Hou Temple, and there will be Cantonese opera performances. In the early years, there were also some martial artists performing and selling medicine here.

Christopher Columbus (Spanish: Cristbal Coln; Italian: Cristoforo Colombo), autumn 1450/1451 – 20th May, 1506, explorer, colonist, navigator, born in the medieval Republic Di Genoa (now northwest Italy). Although Columbus was not the first European explorer to arrive in America (the first European explorer to arrive in America was Leiv Eriksson), but Columbus’s voyage brought the first sustained contact between Europe and the Americas, and ushered in an era of European exploration and colonization of overseas territories for centuries to come. These have immeasurable influence on the historical development of the modern western world. During Columbus’s first voyage in 1492, he landed at a place he called “San Salvador” in the Bahamas, not in planned Japan. During the next three voyages, Columbus arrived in the Greater Antilles, the Lesser Antilles, Venezuela on the Caribbean coast, and Central America and declared them the territory of the Spanish Empire.
